After the recent appointment of the new chief secretary, the issue of senior posts in the Isle of Man Civil Service was raised in the House of Keys today (Tuesday).
Onchan MHK Peter Karran wanted to know if applicants for such positions had to demonstrate any experience in improving efficiency and cutting costs, without reducing frontline services.
Chairman of the Civil Service Commission John Houghton explained there was no general need, and criteria were specific to each individual job.
However, when asked if such requirements would be made policy by the commission, he said all civil servants would have those priorities to the fore:
