Christian throws down 'Tidy Up' gauntlet

Douglas Borough Council says it's well pleased with the results of the first all-Island Big Tidy Up, and is throwing down the gauntlet to the remaining 23 local authorities to make next year's event even more successful.

Six other authorities and many volunteer groups collected a total of two tonnes of rubbish, over two days in October.

'Big Tidy Up 2011' will be on Friday and Saturday, September 30th and October 1st, and council leader David Christian is urging everybody to get involved, and clean up places which don't usually receive attention:
