Winners of the 2010 Tourism Awards announced

THE winners of the 2010 Tourism Awards have been announced at the annual awards ceremony which took place this afternoon.

 

Residents and visitors were asked to nominate the best of the Island's tourism and hospitality sector in nine categories.

 

The winners are:

 

Best Customer Service
- HQ Bar & Restaurant, Douglas

 

Best Eating Out Experience
- Tapas the Spanish Restaurant, Onchan

 

Best Accommodation of the Year - Hotel
- The Welbeck, Douglas

 

Best Accommodation of the Year - Guest Accommodation
- Kings Guest House, Douglas

 

Best Accommodation of the Year - Self-Catering
- Laxey Harbour Chalets

 

Best Accommodation of the Year - Campsite/Hostel
- Laxey Campsite

 

Best Attraction of the Year
- Nautical Museum

 

Best Town or Village
- Peel

 

Best Event of the Year
- Easter Festival of Full Length Plays

 

Outstanding Contribution to Tourism

- Billy Stowell, Nautical Museum

 

This year was the first year that the award for outstanding contribution to tourism was given out. Billy Stowell from the Nautical Museum in Castletown was chosen to receive the award after visitors described him as "a Manxman to treasure".

 

An independent judging panel decided on the eventual winners. The panel consisted of of the Deputy Chief Constable Gary Roberts, Paul Murphy, training and business development manager from the Isle of Man College, Sue Gee, managing director TLC Business Solutions and Helen Byrne, director of Isle of Man Newspapers.
