Housing efficiencies slammed by commissioner

The chairman of Onchan Commissioners says he isn't happy with the rent rise being imposed on tenants of public sector houses in the Isle of Man.

Yesterday (Monday) it was announced they will be paying five per cent more from April 1 next year.

At the same time, the housing maintenance grant to the Island's 17 local authorities is being cut by three per cent to 30 per cent of rents payable.

The department says the changes will save the taxpayer around ?1 million, but Brian Stowell believes there are better ways money could be saved:
