Island students complete space management qualification

by isleofman.com 7th December 2010

THREE students from the Isle of Man are among the first to complete an Executive MBA in Space Management.

The programme, offered by the International Space University in Strasbourg, France, consisted of six modules over 18 months.

Each of the modules were undertaken in different locations and these included Space Policy and Space Law at George Washington University in Washington DC and Space Commerce and Economics at the International Business School in the Isle of Man.

The graduation ceremony took place last month in Strasbourg and was attended by Alex Downie MLC, the Island's political member for the space industry, international academics and industry professionals.

Isle of Man students Michelle Mendes, Dr Helmut Kessler and Carla Sharpe along with seven others from around the world now hold an Executive MBA in Space Management.

Dr Kessler was the valedictorian - a title given to the highest ranked student academically - and he was invited to give a speech.

SES Satellite Leasing Ltd sponsored two of the Isle of Man graduates.

Student Carla Sharpe said: "The ISU EMBA is an essential tool for a career in space business.  I would describe the experience as life-changing and invaluable."
