A 12 year old from Colby has won a magical trip to visit Father Christmas in Lapland.

Aisling Walsh was announced as the winner of a competition run by the Isle of Man Post Office.

Children in the Island were asked to write a letter to Father Christmas and post it into a special Lapland posting box situated inside the Regent Street Post Office.

Aisling's letter was picked out by Gina Walker who will play Cinderella in this year's pantomime at The Gaiety.

She said: "I couldn't believe it when I heard my letter had been picked out. I feel so happy and excited as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am really looking forward to it. I love the snow anyway and will particularly look forward to the husky rides.”"

The twelve year old will be accompanied by her mum Una for the trip which will take place later this month.

During their trip they will meet Father Christmas and have the opportunity to ride snowmobiles, sleigh and husky rides, and go on the toboggans.

Dot Tilbury, general manager of the Philatelic Bureau, said: "We received hundreds of entries for this competition and winning a trip to Lapland would be a dream come true for many children.

"Unfortunately there can only be one winner and I am delighted that Aisling is so excited about the trip which will certainly be a magical and unforgettable experience."
