'Dangerous' pavements should be kept clear

by isleofman.com 4th December 2010

The Department of Infrastucture is being accused of letting down pedestrians all over the Island, for failing to keep pavements clear of snow, and potentially trecherous ice, during the current cold snap.

Douglas councillor David Ashford says the department's staff have done a superb job keeping the main roads open during a difficult few days, but the lack of attention to footways could lead to serious injury (first part of audio file):

Around half a dozen staff from the council's parks and amenity sections have been assigned pavement clearing duties in the past few days, and are on standby this weekend in case there's a further deterioration in conditions.

Councillor Ashford is also pointing out the town hall has an out of hours emergency number, which people can ring if they have problems (second part of audio file):

Douglas Borough Council's out of hours emergency number is 671100.
