AFTER three decades trading in Castletown chief minister Tony Brown announced in April that he would be closing down his shop – Tony Brown Electrics.
The shop which sold electrical and household goods was located on Arbory Street.
He said: "This has been a very difficult decision for me and my wife to make and it is certainly tinged with sadness – we have steadily built up the business to what we have today. We have been at the heart of the community and retail sector of Castletown.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed providing our shop. It has been an "Aladdin's Cave" which has met the household needs of customers from not only Castletown and the Island but also from overseas."
Mr Brown cited a number of reasons for closing down but said it was not lack of faith in the town.
He continued: "It is nothing to do with lack of confidence in the town, it's the family position, the future, and where we are going. It is the appropriate time now to step out."
The shop held a closing down sale to clear all remaining stock.
