Drivers 'wouldn't abandon Ramsey'

Taxi drivers in Ramsey are disputing a claim by commissioners that the town could be left without cabs at weekends, the trade was deregulated.

Last week, commissioner Leonard Singer said the local authority opposed scrapping taxi licence boundaries, amid fears drivers would be drawn to Douglas at busy periods, leaving the northern town and villages without any.

But three Ramsey firms - Ayres Taxis, Radio Taxis and Manx Taxis - say no one has asked them what they think!

Driver Patrick Ayres says they wouldn't abandon Ramsey and don't wish to compete for trade in Douglas.

Mr Ayres says the commissioners' claim is unfounded:
