Roads pre-salted on Tuesday evening

by isleofman.com 30th November 2010

Four gritting teams have been busy across the Island since early this evening (Tuesday), making the main roads as safe as possible in the sub-zero temperatures.

The Department of Infrastrure said they were out during the rush hour, and was urging motorists to drive with extra care while they were at work.

Because of the possibility of snow and hail showers, and dipping temperatures overnight, the decision was taken to pre-salt this evening.

All six primary 'main' routes were due to be treated from 6.30pm, with treatment of the same roads recommencig at 5am tomorrow.

Motorists were being advised to drive with extreme caution both this evening and tomorrow morning and, if at all possible, to use main roads.

The majority of secondary roads have also been treated, but compacted snow and ice have been causing difficulties.
