HEAVY snowfall has caused a number of problems for residents across the Isle of Man.
All schools are cancelled tomorrow. The Department of Education and Children has reluctantly taken the decision after senior officers took advice from the Met Office and Bus Vannin about current conditions and the likely conditions first thing tomorrow morning.
The safety of pupils and staff walking to and from schools, together with concerns over whether there will be a full school bus service, led to the decision being taken by Eddie Teare MHK the Minister for Education and Children.
Conditions will be reviewed at lunchtime on Monday and a further announcement will be made.
Ronaldsway Airport is also closed until tomorrow morning. The road outside the airport which was closed earlier tonight has been re-opened but is passable with "extreme caution".
There are a number of roads closed including the Beinney Phott, Tholt Y Will, the Mountain Road, Lhergy Crippery, East Baldwin and the Ballamodha Straight.
Shore Road in Gansey and the King Edward Road from the Groudle Cottages to the Liverpool Arms are closed until 7am tomorrow (Monday) morning.
Coburg Road in Ramsey has been closed from its junction with Bowring Road through to its junction with Windsor Mount. Windsor Mount is also closed up to the junction with Cumberland Road. This closure will remain in place until at least 10am which is due to ice on the road.
Boilley Spittal in Peel has been closed from its junction with Patrick Street up to the entrance to the car park. This road closure is also in place until at least 10am tomorrow.
All other roads are passable with extreme care.
Police have reported that many vehicles have been abandoned on the main road between Douglas and Ballasalla.
These vehicles are now moveable with care and the Roads Policing Unit are requesting that these are removed as soon as possible to prevent any further obstructions or hazards on the carriageway.
The Police have also cancelled The Police Treat for year six pupils which was due to take place at Kengsington Road on Monday. It has now been postponed until the new year.
