Motorists warned to stay at home due to snow

by isleofman.com 28th November 2010

MOTORISTS are being urged to stay at home if their journey is not necessary as snow continues to fall heavily around the Island.

The Department of Infrastructure are currently trying to clear the snow from roads and have said that motorists are "hampering their efforts".

Police have reported that roads in the south of the Island are particuarly bad. Shore Road in Port Erin has been closed and will remain so until at least 7pm. The Ballamodha Straight is now closed between the junctions of Silverdale Glen and Ballabay Gawne Road.

The advice is that if your journey is not necessary remain at home. If motorists do need to make an urgent journey they should drive responsibly and according to weather conditions at the time. Road conditions are bad and motorists should use dipped headlights.

The Island's bus service has also been affected. A spokesperson for Isle of Man Bus and Rail said the bus network was on "total suspension" and a further decision would be taken at 3pm.

The Mountain Road is also closed until further notice.

Flights to and from Ronaldsway airport have been affected with the arrivals and departure board showing nearly all flights as delayed.
