'Children are priority at home time', says NUT

Three teaching unions, under the umbrella of the Joint Teaching Associations, are calling on the Manx government to do more to sort out school bus services.

The JTA says the new all-Island timetable has meant some youngsters are waiting around in the cold and rain at the end of the day, or missing buses altogether if they are overcrowded.

At the same time it's pleased there has been a promise from the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure to make changes, so buses will show up within ten minutes of school finishing.

Organising secretary for the National Union of Teachers Karl Flint says he understands there being other priorities for services during the day, but the children must come first at home time:
