by isleofman.com 27th November 2010

RAMSEY town will light up next week when the Christmas lights are turned on.

The event will take place on Friday, December 3, and this year the town's two Christmas trees are being sponsored by Britannia International and the Rotary Club of Ramsey.

Captain Malpass, Ramsey Town Commissioners chairman said: "Given these challenging trading time it is important we support our local retailers and shop locally especially at Christmas.

"We are therefore delighted that Britannia International and the Rotary Club of Ramsey have generously agreed to sponsor Christmas trees for the town to add to the festive atmosphere and help make Ramsey the place to be this Christmas."

Britannia International is sponsoring the tree in Parliament Square which will be switched on at 4.15pm by Diane O'Brien of Manx Mencap.

The Rotary Club of Ramsey is sponsoring the tree outside the Courthouse, together with the decorative lights, and this will be switched on at 4.45pm by the Royal British Legion poppy princess Emma Malpass. Emma, 10, will be accompanied by her father Captain Malpass.

On Saturday, December 18, the Ramsey Christmas lantern parade and carol singing service will take place. Participants are requested to assemble in the Town Hall car park at 5pm for a 5.30pm start.
