by isleofman.com 25th November 2010

A WOMAN from Castletown has won a new car worth £12,000 in a competition organised by The Children's Centre.

The "Hands on a Honda" challenge came to a close on Saturday, November 20, when competition finalists were invited to place a vinyl hand onto one of 50 squares mapped out on the car.

Ruth Cooke of Castletown was the lucky recipient after she placed her hand on the square that car dealer Brent Mealin had determined the day before.

Ruth said: "I have never won anything before. I'm speechless but so happy."

Car dealer Brent had kindly gifted the blue Honda Jazz to the charity. He said: "The Children's Centre provides a variety of services which help local communities across the Isle of Man and I wanted to give something back to a charity that works tirelessly to help family life in the Isle of Man."

John Knight, chief executive of The Children's Centre, said: "The sale of tickets has raised just over £13,000 for the charity and will assist us in continuing to provide many of our charitable services such as the Child Contact Centre and Out2Play."
