Twist in scallop dispute

by isleofman.com 25th November 2010

There has been a new development in the scallop dispute.

The row arose when much of the Scottish scallop fishing fleet was banned from Manx waters amid claims it was destroying stocks.

That prompted the Scottish government to take steps to protect stocks off its own coastline, in case there was some 'displacement' of vessels.

However, the embargo put in place for scallop beds at Luce Bay in Dumfries and Galloway has now been lifted.

The area will reopen to scallop dredging from December 8.
