Search is on to find Young Dancer of Mann 2011

THE search is on to find the Young Dancer of Mann 2011.

 

The Isle of Man Arts Council has released details for the competition which takes place early next year.

 

Judging the 2011 competition will be Lynda Cardwell, fellow and examiner of the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) and Loraine Hastings who is also a fellow and examiner of the IDTA.

 

The person crowned Young Dancer of Mann 2011 will receive the Dixon-Hughes trophy and a bursary to attend a workshop in the UK.

 

Entry categories are:
- Classical: ballet, contemporary, character and Greek
- Theatre: musical theatre, commercial theatre, modern jazz and tap
- National: Manx, Irish, etc
- Modern Trends: street dance, hip hop, freestyle

 

Age categories are six to nine, ten to 13 and 14 to 18.

 

2011 will see a new trophy awarded for Young Dancer of Mann - Best Group. Winners will receive a trophy and workshop from a dance professional.

 

Groups are invited to compete in two age categories - Junior (up to 13 years) and Senior (up to 18 years). The minimum age for entry is six.

 

The competition is biennial and was won in 2009 by Lloyd Mayor who has since gone on to study at the prestigious Rambert Dance School.
