A far-reaching criminal justice bill has been put on hold by the House of Keys.
The weighty piece of legislation will be examined by a three-member committee, which will report back.
The Department of Home Affairs says the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill would improve existing laws and enhance the Island's criminal justice system.
However, its critics argue it would hand police much wider powers of arrest, and criminalise minor offences.
The vote today (Tuesday) divided members 12-12, with the casting vote going to Speaker Steve Rodan, who felt the package of proposals should be further examined.
