Packet and prison site feature in questions

by isleofman.com 23rd November 2010

The ongoing uncertainty about the Steam Packet will be raised in the House of Keys today (Tuesday).

South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey will ask Treasury Minister Anne Craine whether the Insurance and Pensions Authority is able to provide regulatory protection in respect of the company's employees' pension funds.

The estimated cost of a possible new fire station on the old prison site in Victoria Road, Douglas will also be raised during questions time.

North Douglas member Bill Henderson will ask Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw about the idea. His question comes after Mr Earnshaw indicated earlier this month that it would be one of his preferred uses for the site.

There are eleven questions for oral answer and another issue due to be raised is the Island's red meat derogation, which is set to end next month. East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell will ask Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister John Shimmin to make and statement on the issue, whilst Onchan member Peter Karran will ask what plans there are to keep a meat facility on the Island.

There will be first readings for the Children and Young Persons' Amendment Bill, the Housing Miscellaneous Provisions Bill and the Anti-Terrorism and Crime Amendment Bill.

There is full, live coverage of question time on Manx Radio's AM 1368 service, from 10am.
