THE Millennium Saagar Indian restaurant in Douglas has won another top award, taking the title of top curry restaurant in the North West at the British Curry Awards.
The awards - known as the ‘Curry Oscars’ - were made at the weekend in London at a star-studded bash which included celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal.
Britain’s curry restaurants came in for praise from the outspoken chef who believes that there is plenty of untapped homegrown talent in the British Isles.
He said on Sunday, “I think the biggest thing . . is that we now have British curry and that is unique in the world. It’s not a poor relation of what you get in India; it is its own identity and we are now influencing restaurants in India.”
It is the latest in a list of top notch awards for the Millennium Saagar and is the third time that the restaurant has been featured in the British Curry Awards, named previously as one of the top 100 curry restaurants in Britain.
The awards have been recognised in Britain since 2005 and this year’s competition attracted a record entry of 67,000 public nominations. The winner of the top award was the Chilli Pickle restaurant in Brighton for best innovation.
