Squash news from the Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 22nd November 2010

THE latest results from the Isle of Man Squash Rackets Association:

Isle of Man Junior Squash Challenge

When Merseyside cancelled the Isle of Man v Merseyside Junior Squash Challenge at short notice, two Isle of Man teams representing junior development officers Dave Griffiths and Carl Albrigt played a match against each other.

The result was an exhilarating contest that it might have to be an annual event. Griffiths’ team won 23-21 as Tarek Gomaa avenged a defeat by Mason McLarney earlier in the season in the final match of 15.

Results:

Oliver Dickinson beat Robin Gledhill 3-0
Edward Batty lost to Sam Wilson 0-3
Sidney Batty beat Angus Bonnett 2-1
Oscar Hill lost to Scott Jones 1-2
Hannah Dixon beat Rachel Pooley 2-1
Toby Woolard lost to Josh Gardner 1-2
Duncan Churcher lost to Richard Creer 1-2
Juan Churcher lost to Aareez Khan 0-3
Juan Corrin beat Sammy Holt 3-0
Daniel Gibson lost to Alastair Trace 0-3
George Griffiths beat Hadyn McLarney 2-1
Chris Moore beat Patrick Fitzpatrick 2-1
Ben Atkinson beat Liam Dixon 2-1
Mike Hayler (Coach) beat Tom Whiteway 2-1
Tarek Gomaa beat Mason McLarney 2-0.

IOMSRA would like to thank Kuba Szymanski wholeheartedly for sponsoring this event as well as the recent Polish Tournament.

Ben Atkinson picked up the Challenge Trophy as captain of the winning team and both teams were presented with medals on ribbons in Polish white and red colours.

Next Graded Tournament – Sunday, November 28 - IOM Under 11/Under 15 (at NSC)

Results from the B League:

Alloms Jewellers Juniors (225) v Island Exhaust (175)
Body & Mind (125) v Jewel Tech (225)
BRW Racketeers (97) v Apollo Consulting (225)
International Divers (212) v Alliance & Leicester International Lions (184)
Onchan Outcasts (225) v BRW Racketeers Academy (110)
Motorvation G (179) v All About Gardens (190)

A maximum points win for Alloms Jewellers Juniors against Island Exhaust saw them leapfrog their opponents to the top of the table.

Apollo Consultancy retain their three point lead in third place over Jewel Tech after both took maximum points against bottom of the table opposition.

International Divers stay fifth ahead of All About Gardens.

Onchan Outcasts’ maximum points win saw them go above Alliance & Leicester International Lions by virtue of having won more matches - with both teams level on points.

Motorvation G struggled to field a full team and remain in the bottom four.

Last year’s newcomers BRW Racketeers remain in bottom spot one place behind their BRW Racketeers Academy side who are picking up more points in defeat than their seasoned stable mates.

Continued spirited performances by Body & Mind keep them as best newcomer but still firmly entrenched in the bottom four while gradually putting some distance from the teams below them.

Match of the week featured Laura Smith of Motorvation G against Lucy Kerr for About Gardens. Smith took a closely contested first game only for Kerr to come back and the next two comfortably. Smith levelled the score in another close contest to set up a decider. The fifth was closest yet, going to 14-all before Kerr took the deciding rally.
