Fletcher Christian is set to make a return to the Isle of Man – with a new film about his life before the mutiny on the Bounty.

An award-winning novel about his love affair with his cousin Isabella Curwen is set to be adapted for the big screen.

Fittingly, the company behind the production, plans to film it both here in the Island as well as in Cumbria.

'Isabella' was written by Fiona Mountain and was shortlisted for the Parker Romantic Novel of the Year prize.

The project details the love affair which many believe set the stage for the Bounty mutiny, as well as the rumours that Fletcher returned to England after the infamous insurrection.

Producer Darren Reagan says the film is a unique and highly commercial project, which he likens to Romeo and Juliet.

He’s also hinting at a stellar cast, saying the time has come for someone like Robert Pattinson, Daniel Radcliffe or Jamie Bell to follow in the footsteps of Errol Flynn, Clark Gable and Marlon Brando to portray Fletcher Christian.

Screenwriter Michaela Lewis says previous films have barely scratched the surface of Fletcher’s ambitions and family life.

The film currently has a ?10 million budget but there’s no word as to when it might start filming or be released.
