There’s a chance for you to be involved in setting the Island’s minimum wage as the committee which recommends the rates looks for a new chair.
The Department of Economic Development is looking for somebody to head the committee, which suggests new rates to the minister when necessary.
It comes at a time when the government is reconsidering the minimum wage with plans to make any new rate effective from next April.
The department says the new chair will need to know about the Island’s economy and workforce but be independent of employers and workers.
Applicants for the post will need to send their CV to the committee, which is based in Nivison House in Douglas, before December 10.
In the meantime, the committee’s asking for your views on what the minimum wage should be next year.
In particular, it’s asking for those on or near the minimum wage to let them know how much they earn and spend as it considers whether the rate should go up.
Currently, adults earn at least ?6.10 an hour – you can make your views known by emailing dedemployment@gov.im
