Personal invitations for NEETs

by isleofman.com 20th November 2010

Special attention is being paid to the 400 so called NEETs in the Isle of Man, as the build up continues to the 'Employment and Skills 2010' careers convention, at the Villa Marina next Thursday (November 25).

NEETs are people in the 16 to 24 age group who are not in employment, education or training, and they have all been sent personal invitations to the event.

It's organised joinly by the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Education and Children, and the aim is to introduce young people and adults to the opportunities available to them in the workplace.

Claire Christian MLC, from the Department of Trade and Industry, says there are plenty of jobs available and it's important to help people to feel confident enough to apply for them (play audio file):

About 40 employers will have stands at 'Employment and Skills 2010', and around 1,000 students from the five local secondary schools will attend the event.

It will run from 9am to 8pm next Thursday, November 25.
