THE Isle of Man’s ‘Volunteer of the Year’ was named as Carol Pattie at the Isle of Man Newspapers’ Awards for Excellence which took place at the Villa Marina on Thursday night.

Carol, a volunteer with the Western ‘Live at Home’ scheme based in St John’s, and part of the Manx Befriending Group, was nominated for her dedication and enthusiasm in helping others.

Carol co-ordinates and prepares food for fund raising events, often serving meals for large numbers of elderly people on a weekly basis.

She encourages greater respect for older people and through her natural leadership skills has had a very positive impact on the volunteering sector.

The other nominees in this category were George Campbell of Bradford & Bingley and Barbara Thorn of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
