Further details have emerged about the charges faced by an ear, nose and throat specialist at Noble's Hospital.
Dr Dirk Heinz Hoehmann, of West Baldwin in Braddan, is accused of obtaining ?736,000 by deception from the former Department of Health and Social Security, and possessing a regulated firearm without a certificate.
Dr Hoehmann's advocate Alan Gough argued his client was a respected physician and wasn't a 'flight risk'.
But despite offering a surety of ?25,000 his application for bail was refused by Deputy High Bailiff Alastair Montgomerie, and he was remanded in custody.
Dr Hoehman will appear again on November 23.
Earlier this week the Department of Health stressed the alleged offences had nothing to do with Dr Hoehmann's clinical duties, and patient care at Noble's would be unaffected.
