An ear, nose and throat consultant at Noble's Hospital was remanded in custody when he appeared in court today (Tuesday).
Dr Dirk Hoehmann is charged with obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception.
'Pecuniary' relates to money and it's understood that in this case the alleged offence involves pay.
The Department of Health is stressing the charge has nothing to do with Dr Hoehmann's clinical duties, and patient care will be unaffected.
The Isle of Man Constabulary's Financial Crime Unit says it's unable to make any further comment at this stage.
