Members of Tynwald have been updated on talks between government and the Steam Packet, ahead of the November sitting of the court which starts today (Tuesday).
After holding meetings with the Steam Packet's board of directors, and the chairman and chief executive of rival freight operator Mezeron, the Department of Infrastructure is reassuring MHKs and MLCs that it is working with both firms to ensure 'quality and stable services at reasonable prices'.
The department says the meetings were 'cordial and business-like', and were opportunities for full and frank exchanges of views and information.
It says it reassured both companies it would act fairly and reasonably in managing Douglas harbour, but that it would also always act in the best interest of the Manx people.
The department says dialogue will continue with the Steam Packet and Mezeron at political and operational levels, to ensure relevant issues are addressed promptly.
