Public safety is key as policing in the Isle of Man is upgraded to 'keep up' with modern society.
That’s the belief of the home affairs minister who is defending plans to introduce a new criminal justice bill.
Among a raft of issues, the bill covers police powers, licensing, sex and drug offences and public order.
It aims to enhance criminal justice in the Isle of Man and will be examined in detail by the House of Keys next week.
Its critics say there's no evidence much of it is needed, in view of the Island's low crime rate, but Adrian Earnshaw says it's important to modernise policing powers:
