More licensed debt collectors needed - MHK

More than ?300,000 is owed in unpaid fixed penalty parking fines in the Isle of Man, over the past three years.

The figure was given in a reply to a House of Keys question from North Douglas member John Houghton last week.

He is gathering evidence on the scale of unpaid fines and civil debts, for his Debt Recovery and Enforcement Bill.

It's a private members bill which Mr Houghton hopes to bring forward by the end of the year.

He says many people have great difficulty collecting money owed to them, despite rulings in their favour in the High Court, and believes more licensed debt collectors could improve that situaution:
