Six of the best keeps Geordies six clear

by isleofman.com 13th November 2010

St George’s showed exactly why they are the team to beat in Manx football as they demolished reigning champions Rushen 6-0 on Saturday.

The Geordies hit six of the best to stay six points clear at the top of the Canada Life International Premier League.

In a blistering start, the league leaders were 3-0 up inside a quarter of an hour.

Doubles from Chris Bass and Frank Jones, one from Callum Morrissey and an own goal made it a miserable day for Rushen.

Old Boys kept up the pressure at the top but were pushed hard by lowly Douglas Royal before they emerged 3-2 winners at Ballafletcher.

Two second half goals from Gary Quirk and one from Dave Quirk ensured they overturned a half-time deficit to secure all three points.

Peel also remain in the race after an 8-2 rout of Castletown at Douglas Road, courtesy of goals from Marc Kelly (two), Lee Gale (two), Matty Woods, Daniel Lace, Daniel Bell and Gary Smith.

Martin Chalker and Tom Callister found the net for Town who finished the match with nine men.

Gymns remain firmly in the bottom two after going down 4-1 at St Mary’s - Nick Bowden scoring for the Tromode outfit - while Michael are also hovering just above the drop zone after a 5-0 defeat at Laxey.

Ashley Webster, Lee Cowley (two), Fraser Vaughan and Gary Williams were on target for the Miners.

Ramsey won the northern derby 4-2 at Ayre to leapfrog their opponents.

The match was all but sealed by half-time as Ramsey opened up a 3-0 lead.

Two from Danny Foulis and one apiece from Martin Torr – against his own club – and Chris Halsall secured the points.

Jason Craine and Sean Kelly scored for the Tangerines.
