Bacchas close in on championship

by isleofman.com 13th November 2010

Bacchas have one hand on the WI-Manx men’s Premier League trophy.

That’s after they won a five goal top of the table thriller to move five points clear with three matches remaining.

Goals from Karl Moore, Andy Bridson and a Richard Le Page penalty flick all but ended Valkyrs A’s title hopes.

Their marksmen were Chris Caldwell and Steven Moore.

Reigning champions Vikings A saw off Bacchas B 8-0.

Castletown A and Harlequins A drew 1-1, Peter Foxton the ‘Quins scorer, while two goals from Gerry Quinn and one from debutant Will Blake secured a 3-0 victory for Vikings B over battling Saracens A who played the entire match with 10 men.

Vikings A dropped points for the first time this season in the WI-Manx women’s Premier League but the champions edged closer to retaining their title in a 2-2 draw with rivals Valkyrs A.

The Valkyrs’ goals were scored by Amy Speed and Karmina Kovanda.

A Sarah McChesney hat-trick and one from Michelle Clague fired Valkyrs B to an exciting 4-3 victory over Ramsey A.

Laura Bellwood, Julie Chesterton and Hannah Grubb were on target for the northerners.
