Local florist blooms in flower competition

A LOCAL florist has been awarded third place in the regional heats of a national florist competition.

Heidi Baker was awarded third place in two categories at the regional heats of the Interflora Florist of the Year competition.

Heidi, 31, owns The Flower Studio at Tynwald Mills. She came third in the Bridal Design and Fascinator categories.

She said: "I am ecstatic to have been awarded third place in both the categories I entered particularly when florist Sarah Horne, an international competition winner of shows such as the Chelsea Flower and Tatton Park, was awarded first place.

"This is the first competition that I have entered since establishing my own business. Apart from being able to show off my imagination and creativity entering such competitions is a great way to network with other florists from all over the world as well as keeping up to date with new trends and techniques."

The event was held at the Village Hotel in Warrington and Heidi was up against 14 other competitors.

She continued: "My passions are flowers and nature so doing what I love most as a career is a dream come true. We love to share that passion with our customers."

The Flower Studio is the first florist in the Island to be registered under the "Fair Flower, Fair Plants'" initiative which encourages the sale of flowers and plants that have been cultivated in a sustainable manner.
