Well behaved children rewarded by the Police

A NEW scheme has been implemented at Willaston School to encourage pupils to show respect.

The Respect Award Scheme aims to reward well behaved children who have shown respect to teachers, peers, and visitors to the school.

It has been set up by PC Charlene Dooley, the Athol Ward manager, and the school's deputy headteacher Rose Burton.

A child's name will be placed in a golden book each time they show respect and they will receive a raffle ticket for a monthly draw.

PC Dooley will visit the pupils during their "sharing assembly" which is held twice each term and six children will be picked from the raffle.

These children will spend time with PC Dooley doing various activities. The first six children picked out on Thursday were treated to a tour of Lord Street Police Station where they met officers and watched a police dog in action.

PC Dooley said: "The idea came to light following discussion with Mrs Burton about the well behaved children often missing out as teachers, police, and parents can often have a lot of their time taken up with children who are not as well behaved. The ultimate goal of the award campaign is to encourage and reward good behaviour in school."

Rose Burton said: "The scheme has quickly caused a buzz of excitement around the school. The impact is evident with many children already receiving tickets for showing respect in a variety of ways, for example displaying good manners towards each other and staff, caring for the school environment, and respecting their belongings.

"They are keen and excited at the prospect of taking part in an activity with PC Dooley and we are proud to be able to work together to reward these children who deserve our recognition."

At the end of the school year the young person who has shown outstanding behaviour will be awarded the title of "School Police Liaison".
