High level of 999 calls in storm period

by isleofman.com 12th November 2010

POLICE received 32 emergency 999 calls and dealt with 80 incidents at the peak of the severe weather last night.

The Emergency Services Joint Control Room (ESJCR) dealt with the calls and incidents between 3pm yesterday and 8am this morning.

102 incidents were logged between 8am yesterday to 8am today.

The average amount of incidents for a normal Wednesday evening would be around 65-75.

Inspector Mark Britton of the Roads Policing Unit said: "This is a high number of calls and they were managed well by the ESJCR staff.

"It would appear that the sensible option of cancelling events and, where possible, keeping indoors has helped with the issues the Island experienced due to the weather.

"The Constabulary would like to thank the public during this busy time. There are still strong winds and the Constabulary asks that people continue to be vigilant."
