Thief steals Poppy Appeal collection

by isleofman.com 12th November 2010

A POPPY Appeal collection box has been stolen in what Police are calling a "despicable crime".

On Wednesday, November 10, the collection box belonging to the Royal British Legion was stolen from inside Maughold Church.

The box, which was taken in the afternoon, contained an unknown amount of money which was due to be presented at the Service of Remembrance yesterday.

PC Matt Creer, of the Northern Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This is a despicable offence to steal donations belonging to the Royal British Legion from inside a church the day before Armistice Day is totally unacceptable. I am asking anyone with information to contact Ramsey Police Station as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Creer on 01624 812234.
