NSC battered by storm force winds - STORM UPDATE

STORM force winds have caused part of the roof of the NSC to break off and fall into the car park.

 

As a result the sports centre is now shut.

 

Severe weather has also caused Police to shut a number of other roads in the Island including the Port Erin Promenade after winds blew fencing into the road.  

 

Michael Street in Peel is also closed after reports of falling roof slates. There are also reports of roof slates falling in the Falcon Road area in Douglas.

 

There has also been a number of reports of fallen trees at Harcroft Meadow in Douglas and on the Sulby main road.

 

Corony Hill in Maughold is partly blocked due to a tree coming down outside Dhoon School.

 

A tree is also blocking Victoria Road in Douglas in the area of the old prison. Police and staff from the Department of Infrastructure are at the scene.

 

Flying debris is damaging vehicles at Athol Terrace in Castletown.

 

Roof slates are also reportedly flying around near to the Ronague junction B42 and A27.

 

Police have also had a report that the door of a commercial property on South Quay has come loose.

 

Peel road and Kewaigue Hill have now re-opened to the public.

 

Members of the public are being advised not to travel unless completely necessary.
