Cancellations due to weather - STORM UPDATE

by isleofman.com 11th November 2010

A LARGE number of social and sporting events have been called off this evening because of the weather, and the following cancellations are among those which have been notified to Manx Radio.

The IOM Choral Society rehearsal at Ashley Hill School, the Army and Sea Cadets meeting, usually held at Tromode, and Kirk Michael Dog Club's session have all fallen victim to the deteriorating conditions.

Also called off are Junior Golf at Mount Murray, the Motorcaravan Club at St John's, all courses at the Isle of Man College, and the Western AC session at QEII High School.

The Three Lions coaching session, due to be held at Auldyn School at 4:30pm, was cancelled, Colby AFC junior training for the under-13 and under-15 teams was called off, and in rugby, Saturday's Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield game between Emerging Nomads and Vagabonds B is already off.

This evening's Ramsey Bakery-sponsored Firemen's Run has been postponed until further notice because of the poor weather forecast. Organisers say they had concerns for the safety of competitors, with the possibility of storm force winds and gusts of up to 80mph. They will announce a new date soon.

The Northern Swimming Pool has been advised to cancel all evening sessions. This will effect Splash swimming lessons, Ramseian Swimming Club lessons and Tania's Fitness Class.

Port St Mary Rainbows and Baljyn Jiass Guides are also cancelled this evening , as are 1st Douglas Thursday Beavers and Scouts.

The Western Swimming Pool Aquafit meeting is off, although today's swimming lessons ran as normal.

The Whist Drive at St Jude's Old School is cancelled and St John's Football club's fortnightly bingo session is off.

The monthly meeting of the executive of the South Douglas Old Friends' Association has been called off and will be rescheduled.

There will be no training for members of Bacchas Hockey Club, and Douglas High School Old Boys training on the astro-turf at Peel has also fallen victim to the weather.

The Isle of Man Archery club session at Onchan Community Centre is cancelled and the Western Community Partnership meeting tonight at the Philip Christian Centre in Peel is also postponed until further notice.
