THE Town House hotel in Douglas has been crowned the Isle of Man's Hotel of the Year in the World Travel Awards.
The hotel won the award after fighting off competition from The Hilton, Glen Helen Inn and the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club.
The Town House is part of the Live and Work Hotels which also includes Gloucester House.
Jon Allen, managing director of Live and Work Hotels, said: "We were surprised to be nominated and delighted to win. We have worked very hard to make sure The Town House and Gloucester House provide the highest standard accommodation we can achieve.
"2010 has been a very eventful year for us as not only did we win this prestigious award but The Town House also received the four star Gold Award from Isle of Man Tourism/Visit Britain."
The World Travel Awards are in their 17th year and aim to encourage excellence in every sector of global travel and tourism. Over 5,000 travel companies, destinations, and organisations are nominated each year.
The Town House and Gloucester House comprise a number of suites with multiple rooms and a kitchen.
Jon continued: "More than halving the number of rooms in the existing hotels to provide the apart-suite accommodation was a bit of a gamble at the outset but we have had a very successful summer and if you read our reviews on the various travel sites you can see that we seem to have hit the right key.
"We are not sitting on our laurels however and this year's improvements include free national and international telephone calls, super king size beds and a number of additional facilities such as iPod players and coffee machines."
Director of Isle of Man Tourism Rod Nipper said: "It is vital to the future prosperity of the Island that our accommodation providers continue to invest in their product to improve the standards for all our visitors.
"I would like to congratulate The Town House team on adding this industry award to their four star accolade achieved earlier this year. It is good to see their very significant investment and effort being recognised and rewarded."
