by isleofman.com 9th November 2010

THE MHK for South Douglas has paid tribute to the former Mayor of Douglas who died earlier today at the Hospice.

David Cretney MHK said that Dot Pitts was "truly inspirational" to all who came into contact with her.

Dot, who became Mayor of Douglas in 2008, had been receiving chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Bowel Cancer.

Mr Cretney said that although Dot was very ill in her mayoral year she battled on. He said: "She carried out her duties with energy, dignity, and good humour raising many thousands of pounds for her chosen charities."

The former town councillor for St George's Ward was described as a very caring and family orientated person. She has been married for over 30 years to Stephen and leaves children Debbie, Nicola, Stephen and Frankie.

In her final days Dot celebrated Christmas at the Hospice alongside her close family and friends and the Mayor of Douglas.

Mr Cretney explained: "This was always her most favourite time of the year and knew that she would not be likely to see this Christmas."

He concluded: "She fought a very brave fight and will be missed by many, particularly her family, with whom our thoughts are with at this sad time."
