THE Island's Memory Clinic has received accreditation for the high standards of care it provides to residents with memory problems.
The clinic, operated by the Department of Social Care, has been recognised by the UK's Memory Services National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP).
At the clinic specialist assessment, treatment, and support is given to those suffering with memory problems and there is a strong emphasis on the detection and support of people with dementia.
Bill Malarkey MHK, political member for social services, said: "An increasing number of people in our community experience memory loss so finding ways of dealing with this condition and supporting those service users is very important.
"This external recognition provides a positive endorsement of the services provided locally. I also thank all the staff involved in achieving this award."
Social Care Minister Martyn Quayle MHK said: "My department provides care and support to thousands of people in our community. Individuals should have freedom to flourish despite their age or disability and we are committed to ensure that people can cope with any impairment so that they are able to remain as independent as possible."
