Firefighters work through the night at industrial estate blaze

by isleofman.com 9th November 2010

AROUND 40 firefighters worked through the night last night to extinguish a fire at Balthane Industrial Estate in Ballasalla.

Fire crews from Castletown, Port Erin, and Douglas worked from 9.45pm to 2.51am to bring the blaze, which had spread into two adjoining industrial units, under control.

At 11.30pm the airport's fire engine was called into action and after supplying a fire fighting jet the fire was finally extinguished by 1.30am.

Due to difficulties trying to reach parts of the buildings fire damage crews remained on scene throughout the night continuing to damp down and extinguish pockets of fire.

Later today fire officers will carry out an investigation to try and determine the cause of the fire.
