The first chief minister of the Isle of Man says radical changes are needed in relation to members of the House of Keys and local authorities.
On Manx Radio's Sunday Opinion programme, Sir Miles Walker said he thought the pay structure for MHKs was 'about as wrong as it could get'.
He suggested that in order to attract a different section of the community as candidates, the sums on offer would either have to be a lot more, or a lot less for people who may want to get involved in politics, but didn't actually need the money.
With a general election looming next year, Sir Miles also said local authorities needed to be reorganised, and central government should pass down many of its daily responsibilities:
