STEAM Packet staff have been handing out flyers to the public today (Saturday) about "the threat to ferry services".
Since Mezeron launched a daily freight service from Douglas to Liverpool the Steam Packet has raised concerns about the impact it will have.
The flyers have been produced by unions RMT, Nautilus and Unite working on behalf of Steam Packet employees.
They were handed out at the Villa Marina where a TravelWatch meeting was held this morning, at Tesco - which is using the Mezeron freight service - and in Douglas town centre.
The unions claim the impact on the Steam Packet caused by the rival freight service could mean less frequent - and more expensive - passenger services and could have a negative impact on tourism and events such as the TT.
The flyer states there are 300 Island-based tax-paying Steam Packet employees - and their families - contributing to the economy.
"Any job losses would be an increased burden on the government's finances which are already under pressure from outside the Island," the flyer adds.
