Remembrance Sunday - plans in place for next week

A TWO minutes silence to remember men and women who have died serving their country will be held next week.

 

The public are asked to fully co-operate with two silences which will take place at 11am on Thursday, November 11, and Sunday, November 14.

 

Motorists are also requested to stop driving between 11am and 11.02am and turn off their engines.

 

The Isle of Man National Service of Remembrance will be held at the Royal Chapel of St Johns at 3pm on the Sunday.

 

His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and the chief minister will be present.

 

Members of the public who wish to attend are asked to be seated in the church by 2.45pm.

 

The Borough of Douglas remembrance service will also take place on Sunday, November 14 at St Thomas's Church.

 

A parade will form at Market Hill at 9.15am and move off at 9.30am through Duke Street, Strand Street, Castle Street, Marina Road, St Thomas's Walk and Market Street to Church Road Marina.

 

It will pause at the Regent Street, Granville Street and St Thomas's Walk junctions so that people can join in at those points.

 

The service will start at 10am and finish at 10.45am so that people can parade to the War Memorial where the two minute silence will be observed.

 

This will be followed by the laying of wreaths.

 

Members of the public, local organisations, and the general public are invited to participate in the event.

 

Road closures will be in place on Finch Road, Church Road Marina and Harris Promenade between 9am and 12pm
