Thousands of people are expected on Douglas promenade this afternoon (Saturday) and evening, for the borough council's annual bonfire night celebration.
It's been put back a day from November 5 so the tide will allow fireworks to be set off from the beach, and to take advantage of the large number of people who will be in the town on the busiest day of the week.
The entertainment on the promenade starts at 4pm, with music and face painting, and the main event is two hours later.
Leader of Douglas Borough Council David Christian says there are strong safety reasons for staging a large-scale, organised bonfire and firework display (play audio file):
The best guy competition will be judged by the Mayor, Councillor Ritchie McNicholl, at 5.45, the bonfire will be lit at 6pm and the firework display will begin at 6.15pm.
