Outstanding achievement award for Onchan school boy

by isleofman.com 5th November 2010

AN Onchan school boy has followed in the footsteps of his older brother after winning an award for outstanding all round achievement.

Jack Baggaley, 11, has won the Alfie Gilmour Award for Endeavour - which his brother Thomas won last year.

The award is given annually to a pupil of Kewaigue School and is in its eighth year. It is sponsored by Manx Gas in memory of Douglas Gas employee Alfie Gilmour who was a pupil at Kewaigue School.

Gary Cregeen, Manx Gas sales and marketing director, said: "Alfie was someone who demonstrated commitment to his team and the company and it was appropriate to name the award after him.

"Jack is a worthy winner, as was his brother last year, and Manx Gas is delighted it stays in the Baggaley family for another year."

Karen Norton, deputy head teacher of Kewaigue School described Jack as a "super pupil". She said: "He was always undaunted by whatever he was faced with doing in terms of academic work, had a really positive attitude and was a polite and helpful boy who helped whenever he could."

Both Jack and Thomas are now pupils at Ballakermeen High School.
