Baroness Grey-Thompson pays visit to Island

by isleofman.com 5th November 2010

Renowned former wheelchair athlete Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson was on the Island yesterday.

She was here as a guest of the Isle of Man Sporting and Dining Club, to speak at their latest dinner at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club last night.

During her career Tanni won - among other things - 16 Paralympic medals, including 11 golds, and clinched victory in six London Marathons.

Recognition of her achievements have seen her awarded with such accolades as an OBE, a DBE and then earlier this year a life peerage.

She also came third in the 2000 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Speaking to Manx Radio before giving her speech, Tanni surprisingly revealed a family sporting connection with the Isle of Man: (play audio clip)

You can hear a full interview with Tanni on Manx Radio's Saturday Sport Classified programme from 5pm tomorrow.
