Haulier staying with the Packet

A Manx haulage firm says the fierce competition for freight over the Irish Sea between the Steam Packet and Mezeron could be bad news for the Isle of Man.

John Quaye from Manx Independent Carriers says if the Packet faces hard times as a result of losing cutomers like Shoprite and Tesco, the end result might be fewer passenger sailings and less choice for the public.

Mr Quaye says the 'man on the street' is unlikely to see lower prices for goods and services, despite the container ship operator offering competitive rates to hauliers.

All things considered, he says he won't be jumping ship!:
