Serious concern over passenger fares and services

A senior politician on the Island admits he is extremely concerned by the medium to long-term scenario facing the Steam Packet.

Economic Development Minister Allan Bell will today (Wednesday) meet Steam Packet management, as discussions continue over the company’s future.

It follows the loss of major freight customers to Ramsey-based Mezeron, which has begun a daily container-based freight service between Douglas and Liverpool.

Mr Bell says there is great concern about the potential impact on passenger fares and services:
